Agenda: APRICOT antispam operational conference track

Wednesday 1 March 2006, L2/Room 5

11:00 - 12:30 - Session 1

Dave Crocker, Brandenburg Internetworking - DKIM and Email Authentication Update [presentation]
Email authentication is a topic of growing interest and relevance to email administrators, both on the sender and receiver side, and is further tied to sender reputation. There are several competing and in some cases cooperating authentication mechanisms, with varying degrees of industry adoption. Dave Crocker will provide an update on the current status of email authentication efforts, with special reference to DKIM (which combines Yahoo's DomainKeys and Cisco's Identified Internet Mail mechanisms).

Seo Boon Ng, Cisco - Botnet Activity and Mitigation [presentation]
The main topic will be how BOTNETs work, the purpose of a BOTNET, the dangers of BOTNETs, how to mitigate BOTNETs, and how we should cooperate to mitigate it. Too many Asian systems have been compromised then function as Zombie PC and are being abused to several ways.

14:00 - 15:30 - Session 2

An open discussion panel on antispam blocklists, from an operator perspective. The speakers are operators of various well known and widely used block lists.
Richard Cox (Spamhaus.org)
Matthew Sullivan (SORBS)

Moderator: Suresh Ramasubramanian (Outblaze Limited)

16:00 - 17:30 - Session 3

Ray Hunt, University of Canterbury - Tightening the Net: A Review of Current and Next Generation Spam Filtering Tools [presentation] [document]
This paper provides an overview of current and future spam filtering approaches. It then examines the problems spam introduces, including discussing what constitutes spam and how it can be measured. The paper then focuses on discussing automated, non-interactive filters, which cover a broad range from open source to commercial implementations leading on to new ideas proposed by research papers in this area.

This session discusses several technical initiatives in antispam operations where the Australian government discusses cooperation with ISPs to fight spam and prosecute spammers, in the context of the Australian antispam law.
